traditional seat lug

Drawings

Until some years ago the only way to build a bicycle frame was to weld together some steel tubes with lugs. There were many types of lugs and they were often used as decorative elements.

In those years Italian framebuilders were among the best in the world. They set a benchmark for style and elegance that survives to this day.

Today other materials and building techniques dominate the bicycle market. Even the most renowned framebuilders had to follow this trend and there are now but a handful of them that still prefer the traditional building techniques.

Some of the historical brands had great commercial success, others changed the soul of their work, others disappeared. Many with time attained cult status and they are today highly regarded by fans and collectors.

Classic bicycles are still admired for the style, high quality and elegant beauty of their construction, and it is to these bicycles that the drawings of cicli su carta are dedicated.

You will find them listed below, grouped by brand. For each I added a short history.
